Running in Limburg, NL

I have to confess when it comes to bicycling and rain, I become a recluse (I know send cheese with this whine).   I don’t mind cold or wind, but rain stops me from starting a ride.

Lately with unpredictable weather I have been doing more running than riding.  While I don’t like to run as much as I like to bike, I feel if it rains, I don’t get as thoroughly drenched when running.

Visually the area I live/run/bike in is stunning.  While running I see (observe) more details of the area that I am in.  Regularly my iPhone is in hand taking pictures of the surrounding countryside.  In fact, several of the local Dutch have chuckled at me as I am out taking pictures  (attached photo gallery) and still running.  Glad I keep the iPhone in a case.

All of my routes start at my house which is great!  The routes I take are mixed:  road, trail and multi use path (bike, moped, horse, farm vehicle…).  I prefer running on the farm trails.  Lately I have been forced onto the roads because the trails have 2-3” of impassible mud.  On the roads thankfully motorized vehicle give me wide berth and slow down.

I won’t bore anyone with stats on my runs, but…. just know that I am not someone to keep pace with as I am a sloooooooooow runner (too many photo distractions!).  Sometimes I will Twitter stats (@baileyandrew) if I increase distance, pace or time, but usually I like to send up a photo after my runs.
