Over the course of the year I had a lot of adventures and experiences, alone, with Crystal (my wife), with family and friends. It was both a rewarding and challenging year. Below are probably the top twelve events for me.
2012 July/August. After we cleared our house in Thansuss, Bavaria, I set out on my bicycle to ride across Germany. It was a fantastic, tiring and rewarding 4.5 day/600KM ride.
July 2012. After the Blumes depart Crystal and set out on a frantic two weeks before our pack out. It was crazy. Daily trips to the sort/recycling yard… Thankfully we had a team to actually put things in boxes and crates.
August 2012: Arrive at the new house also known as “The Tower” . We had only lived there for a week and the locals already knew that we were Americans.
The Blume come to visit us in two weeks we visit: Munich, Garmisch, Zugspitz, Oberamergau, Neuschwanstein, Kitzingen, Rothenberg, Dachau, Heidelberg. I was beat afterwards.
2012 November. Crystal and I travel to Nice, FR for Thanksgiving. It was our first time. Fantastic four days that included a bike tour of Nice and a wine tour of the Provence vineyards
2012 Christmas. Our first Christmas in the new house. Learning things like where to buy a tree and how was quite interesting.
March/April 2012 My mother comes to visit. We take a tour of Dubrovnik (Left), Munich, and Prague (Right)
August 2012 – December 2012. At our new house in Schimmert, NL, we quickly learned that is kind of like living in “Green Acres”. Every animal picture lives no further than 250 meters from our house. Not even 10% are photoed. It is quite a commotion in the morning
2012 November. My best friend, Otter, who I have known since I moved to Germany in 92 came to visit with his friend Jule. It was a great weekend of renewing friendship and revisiting the past.
December 2012. First Snow fall. It was great to have a bit of snow. While not enough to snowshoe or ski, it was enough to shovel, MTB through on the trails.
March 2012 – Tour of Strykers (Army Vehicles) at Vilseck Elementary School
May 2012. I tour the Arnhem, NL area with 5th graders from AFNORTH ES. We learn of the history of “The Bridge Too Far” meet with local tour guides alive during WW2 and visit a local Van Gogh Museum.
